NFL Week 3 Injury Updates & Fantasy Outlook
Get the latest NFL Week 3 injury updates and fantasy outlooks. Breakdown of player statuses, timelines, start/sit advice to win your matchup.
Joe Burrow dominated the injury headlines last week, and for good reason. But several other players quietly picked up injuries that could shape Week 3 and beyond. Below, we break down the most important NFL Week 3 injury updates and their fantasy football outlooks. With injuries having a massive impact on start/sit decisions, this analysis will give you the edge to set winning lineups.

Quarterbacks
Brock Purdy
Injury: Shoulder / Toe Injury
Analysis: Purdy has progressed well over the past week, but is not expected to start in week 3. The toe injury is the biggest concern for Purdy. Shanahan has purposely not revealed which toe is injured, but video review shows a right big toe getting smushed under the defender. A right big toe injury can impact a quarterback's ability to push off when throwing. Whenever Purdy can go, his pocket mobility and deep balls may be limited initially.
Baker Mayfield
Injury: Left Knee / Foot/Toe
Analysis: Mayfield appeared to injure his left knee during Monday night's game. He finished the game, and there have been no official reports of his knee being an issue. At this point, his knee is just something to monitor. He is also dealing with a foot/toe issue, but full practices suggest this is mild and won't negatively impact him in week 3.
Jayden Daniels
Injury: Left knee
Analysis: Daniels will miss week 3 with a knee injury. Video review is concerning for a mild PCL injury. In the long run, Daniels should be fine and can play through it, but in the short term, PCL injuries affect stability and confidence when planting and cutting off the injured leg. For a running QB like Daniels, expect limited rushing production over the first few weeks after he returns; his throwing should remain strong.
Justin Fields
Injury: Concussion
Analysis: Fields has been ruled out with a concussion. He will need to pass through the NFL's protocol to play in week 4.

JJ McCarthy
Injury: High Ankle Sprain
Analysis: McCarthy suffered a right high ankle sprain while scrambling on Sunday night and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks, indicating a grade 2 injury with some tissue damage and instability. High ankle sprains cause instability where the lower leg meets the foot, which can make it difficult to plant and power off the injured ankle. For a right-handed quarterback, this can impact his throwing power as well as mobility.
Quarterbacks average missing 1.6 games; McCarthy is expected to exceed this. The good news is that historically, quarterbacks average no drop-off in fantasy points after a high ankle sprain.
Running Backs
Josh Jacobs
Injury: Ankle Injury
Analysis: Jacobs opened the week on the injury report but has since been cleared. Three limited practices suggest a mild issue that shouldn’t impact his fantasy upside. While ankle sprains carry a 29% recurrence rate, running backs average only an 8% dip in production. Jacobs’ upside is strong enough that this shouldn’t concern fantasy managers.

Cam Skattebo
Injury: Ankle Injury
Analysis: Skattebo was initially listed as questionable with an ankle injury, but logged three full practices. Ankle sprains will impact a runner's lateral agility much more than the downhill bruising style of running Skattebo is known for. This does not appear to be an injury that would negatively impact Skattebo this week. The rookie has looked impressive through two weeks and may be on his way to securing a larger role in the Giants' offense.
Tyrone Tracy
Analysis: Tracy is off the injury report after limited practices with calf and chest issues. Calf injuries (15–20% recurrence) can impact speed and acceleration, while chest injury recurrences are rarer. Both can cause mild fantasy dips, but being fully cleared lowers concern. The bigger threat may be Cam Skattebo stealing touches.
Bhayshul Tuten
Injury: Shoulder Injury
Analysis: Tuten is cleared to play after a mild shoulder injury. Running backs average a 19% dip in fantasy production in the first game after a shoulder injury. Tuten's appears very mild, so he may not see such a significant dip and remains in flex consideration in deep leagues.[-
Zach Charbonnet
Injury: Foot Injury
Analysis: Foot injuries can impact a running back's ability to plant and change direction quickly. When mild, these usually are not a big problem, but when moderate-severe, they can linger and worsen throughout the year. Charbonnet did not practice all week and was ruled out on Friday. It's too early to tell where he falls on the severity spectrum, but monitoring progress next week will be very telling.

D’Andre Swift
Injury: Quad Injury
Analysis: Swift was limited in practice all week with a quad injury. The quads are among the strongest muscles in the body and play a key role in sprinting and initiating contact. Surprisingly, players can often compensate for mild quad injuries, with running backs showing no average drop-off in fantasy production upon return. Backs typically miss about 1.2 games, though many don’t miss any. Re-injury remains a concern, with rates around 10–15%. If Swift ends up playing, he remains a worthwhile start. The challenge for fantasy managers is that Swift plays at 4:25, so you must have a pivot option ready.
Jeremy McNichols
Injury: Hamstring
Analysis: McNichols is good to go in week 3 after battling a mild hamstring injury. Hamstrings are a powerful sprinting muscle that is most active at the top 80-100% of a sprint. Running backs only get to top speed on long runs, which helps explain why backs see no drop-off in fantasy points after a hamstring injury. The big concern is re-injury, which is a 20-30% risk.
Wide Receivers

Ladd McConkey
Injury: Biceps Injury
Analysis: McConkey logged two full practices and will play with no restrictions. A mild biceps injury like this is not going to affect his ability to run or move his arm to make all the catches. These types of injuries are more impactful on weight-lifting moves, but not actual football plays. McConkey is off to a slower start this season, but the Chargers' offense is powerful and should continue to put up yards and touchdowns in bunches. McConkey's time is coming.
Brian Thomas Jr.
Injury: Wrist Injury
Analysis: Brian Thomas Jr. is dealing with a mild wrist injury, but has been a full participant in practice. An injury this mild is unlikely to affect his ability to catch and hold the ball. This is a non-concern for now and is not why Thomas is off to a slow start.
Emeka Egbuka
Injury: Groin / Hip Flexor Injury
Analysis: Egbuka is truly questionable after being limited in practice on Friday after missing two practices earlier in the week. The groin muscles are involved in sprinting and single-leg function, but are not the primary drivers for speed and power. He is also reportedly dealing with a hip injury, which can also influence sprinting. Historically, receivers average missing just one game and no drop-off in fantasy production when they return from both groin and hip muscle injuries; however, his limitations in practice may lead to a reduction in snaps and fewer opportunities. Egbuka has been excellent through two weeks, but this may be a week to keep him on the bench even if he plays.

Xavier Worthy
Injury: Shoulder Dislocation
Analysis: Worthy is not expected to play in week 3 as he rehabs a shoulder dislocation with a labrum tear. The risk of re-dislocation is very high, with NFL data showing a 55% recurrence rate. Another dislocation could mean an extended time out or even season-ending surgery. Whenever he does play, expect Kansas City to utilize him as a deep threat and space creator, while limiting his contact as his shoulder recovers strength. Worthy will carry a high risk all season with the chance of re-dislocation at any time. With the Chiefs playing Sunday night, fantasy managers need a pivot ready if they plan to start him.
Jauan Jennings
Injury: Ankle Injury
Analysis: Jennings missed practice all week while rehabbing an ankle injury. These injuries limit route sharpness and separation, with recurrence rates in the high 20s. Even if he suits up, he’ll likely be limited. WRs average a 14% dip in fantasy points after an ankle injury, and that likely applies to Jennings.
Josh Downs
Injury: Ankle Injury
Analysis: Unlike Jennings above, Downs has practiced in full and is off the injury report. Expect him to look good and not see the typical 14% decline in fantasy points.
Christian Kirk
Injury: Hamstring
Analysis: Kirk is expected to return in Week 3 after missing two games with a hamstring injury. Because hamstrings are critical for sprinting, wide receivers are impacted more than any other position, averaging a 15% dip in fantasy production and carrying a 20–30% re-injury risk. That said, Kirk’s slot role is exactly what Houston needs right now, and with C.J. Stroud looking to get the ball out quickly, he could still see a high volume of targets this week.

Wan'Dale Robinson
Injury: Foot Injury
Analysis: Foot injuries often will impact a receiver's ability to get in and out of his routes and, when moderate-severe, can linger all season. Robinson was a full go in practice, making it likely his injury is mild and should not have the negative impacts mentioned above.
Xavier Legette
Injury: Hamstring
Analysis: Legette is dealing with a mild hamstring injury. The words of coach Canalles are not very concerning; however, Legette has not shown fantasy value yet in his young career and is best kept on the bench/waivers.
Tory Horton
Injury: Groin Injury
Analysis: Horton is cleared to play after a mild groin injury. Groin injuries can impact a players stability on one leg but are less involved in changing directions, likely why receivers average no decline in fantasy points after a groin injury.
Tight Ends
Tyler Warren
Injury: Toe Injury
Analysis: Warren was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday as he deals with a toe injury but will play. Toe injuries can impact a player's ability to push off while sprinting and blocking. The sample size for tight ends is too small, but receivers average a 10% dip in fantasy points after a toe injury. Expect him to be a little less explosive but still worth a start.

Kyle Pitts
Injury: Toe Injury
Analysis: Unlike Warren above, Pitts has been a full practice participant and is off the injury report. Do not expect this to limit Pitts this week.
Tucker Kraft
Injury: Knee
Analysis: Kraft suffered an undisclosed knee injury in practice and is questionable for Sunday. The team has not provided much detail but we know they do not think it is serious. For now, we will continue to look out for more information.
Dallas Goedert
Injury: Knee Injury
Analysis: Goedert will return this week after missing week 2 with a knee injury. Expect Goedert to look good overall, but may be a little less explosive than usual.
Evan Engram
Injury: Back Injury
Analysis: Engram is out with a back injury.
