week 10 injury updates

Week 10 brings another critical slate of NFL injury developments as fantasy managers enter the stretch run toward the playoffs. Several high-profile names are navigating soft-tissue setbacks, lingering foot and ankle issues, and short-term IR stints, highlighted by Kyler Murray’s surprise placement on injured reserve and continued uncertainty around star playmakers such as Saquon Barkley, D’Andre Swift, and A.J. Brown. This report provides detailed medical context, functional impact, and expected timelines for return so you can make informed roster decisions and maintain a competitive edge in the most pivotal weeks of the fantasy season.

Quarterbacks

week 10 injury updates

Kyler Murray

Injury: Foot injury

Analysis: In a sudden change of events, Murray has been placed on the injured reserve to allow his sprained foot to heal fully. Murray's foot was initially deemed a mild injury; clearly, this was incorrect as he will now miss at minimum eight weeks due to the lingering injury.

A moderate-severe foot sprain impacts a quarterback in many ways. First off, the midfoot is a critical junction in the foot whose primary responsibility is to adapt its shape depending on its role during the walking, running, or throwing cycle. When pushing off to run or throw, the foot must rapidly supinate to create a rigid foot to push off; however, when landing from a stride, or during the follow-through phase of throwing, the right foot pronates to allow shock absorption (running/walking) and to allow full rotation during the follow-through of a throw. The midfoot is a critical component of the supination and pronation motion, and when injured, these motions can be impacted.

Understanding the role of the midfoot in athletic function, we can see how a sprain that creates laxity within the foot makes it extremely difficult to run and push off to throw. Clearly, healing has not gone as planned, and Murray cannot function at a high enough level to play yet. Murray can be dropped in re-draft formats.

CJ Stroud

Injury: Concussion

Analysis: Stroud has been ruled out for week 10 with a concussion. He will have to pass through the NFL's concussion protocol.

Brock Purdy

Injury: Toe Injury

Analysis: Purdy continues to be expected to miss time with a right turf toe injury. As I've written for weeks, this injury is no joke for a right-handed passer. The right big toe is the final point of contact with the ground when a right-handed passer throws, and extreme amounts of force go through the toe to push off the ground. With Mac Jones playing well, expect San Francisco to remain cautious.

Running Backs

Saquon Barkley

Injury: Groin injury

Analysis: Barkley should be fine after exiting week 8 early with a groin injury. The groin muscles are powerful muscles involved in extending the hip during sprinting and also play a critical role in single-leg stability. When running, athletes are constantly on one leg, making these muscles a big part of running. The good news with groin injuries is that there are numerous other muscles that can contribute to sprinting and acceleration, and being on the medial (inside) of the hip, they are not the primary muscles for lateral agility. Thus, as long as pain is down and the range of motion is adequate, athletes can play well through a groin injury. Running backs average no drop-off in fantasy points in the first game after a groin injury, and Barkley remains an elite upside RB1.

D'Andre Swift

Injury: Groin injury

Analysis: Swift is questionable after missing last week, as well as missing practice Friday due to both the groin injury and a personal matter. He did practice in full on Thursday, providing some hope for his status on Sunday. As mentioned with Barkley, the groin muscles are involved in running, but not the primary muscles. Swift's game should not be impeded by his injury, though re-injury rates are in the 15-20% range. The biggest concern for Swift is the emergence of rookie Kyle Monangai, who may eat into Swift's share of the backfield. Still, the Bears know that Swift has been productive throughout his entire career and should still give him a handsome enough workload to get you points.

week 10 injury updates

James Cook

Injury: Foot / Ankle injury

Analysis: Cook is off the injury report and full go after being limited with a foot and/or ankle injury. Yes, we've seen countless times how a foot injury zaps a runner's ability to quickly plant and change direction. However, Cook practiced in full on Friday, telling us this is nothing more than a mild injury. A mild foot injury does not impact the stability of the foot or its ability to be counted on to quickly change directions, which is so critical to Cook's game. While runners do average a 6% dip in fantasy points after a foot injury, and a 7% dip after an ankle injury, Cook has been so good this year that such a mild injury bears no concern for his week 10 status.

Bucky Irving

Injury: Foot and Shoulder Injury

Analysis: The frustration continues for fantasy managers, and surely for Buccannears fans and for Irving himself. Bucky will miss his fifth straight game due to a mid-foot sprain and a shoulder subluxation. Reports out of Tampa suggest it is the shoulder that is slowing him down more than the foot. Shoulder subluxations are nothing to mess around with. This season, we have been lucky to see Xavier Worthy and Tyrone Tracy respond well to rehab to stabilize their shoulders, but this is not always the case. An unstable shoulder is at high risk for re-dislocating (or re-subuxing) and can be a challenge to raise the arm to catch, and a big challenge to take on contact when running. Many times, conservative rehab can do the trick and get a player back on the field, but in Irving's case, he is not quite ready. It remains to be seen how much longer he will miss. The NFL average is three games, and he is well beyond that now. Hopefully, Bucky can return this season.

Kyle Monangai

Injury: Ankle Injury

Analysis: Fresh off a career game, Monangai is cleared from the injury report after being limited with an ankle injury. A full-blown clearance from any injury designation all but removes any concerns ahead of week 10. Throw in the fact that he is just 23 years old, when healing is extremely efficient, and we have very little reason to have any concerns here. Running backs average a mild 7% dip in fantasy points after an ankle injury, which is not much. The bigger concern is if D'Andre Swift returns to the lineup and resumes his lion's share of the touches. If Swift (who is also injured) plays, Monangai is a risky start in fantasy.

Trey Benson

Injury: Meniscus debridement

Analysis: Benson is 6 weeks post-op meniscus trim, which often is around the time players will begin to return to full action. A meniscus trim is when the surgeon will snip out torn parts of the meniscus to reduce pain and locking of the knee joint. The advantage of a trim versus a full repair is a quick return to play and minimal expected performance decline.

After any knee surgery, the quad muscle will quickly lose strength as swelling consumes the joint; however, the strength loss following a meniscus trim is minimal compared to more invasive procedures, and Benson should be nearing his full speed, strength, and explosiveness.

While Benson does not appear in line to play in week 10, he should be back soon and experience minimal impact on fantasy production.

Aaron Jones

Injury: AC joint sprain

Analysis: Jones is pushing to be ready for week 10, but his status is still unclear. Generally speaking, playing through an AC joint injury is possible for a running back. The AC joint is where the scapula meets the collarbone and needs to move properly to reach the arms overhead to make a catch, and needs to be stable enough to take on contact with blocking and lowering the shoulder for contact. When acutely injured, the joint gets stiff and painful, but with a mild injury, this can get under control rather quickly.

In the NFL, running backs average missing 2.5 games. Jones' injury is deemed mild, and he has a great chance of missing less than the average. Since 2017, running backs have averaged a 19% dip in fantasy points after an AC joint injury, making Jones a borderline flex this week if he can play.

Quinshon Judkins

Injury: AC joint sprain

Analysis: The week 9 bye served the Browns' rookie well, as he appears to be over his AC joint injury. As mentioned with Jones above, with a mild AC joint injury, it is not terribly difficult to get the pain and stiffness under control. While running backs do average a 19% dip in fantasy points in the first game after an AC joint, Judkins' youth and heavy workload make it likely he avoids this dip.

Rhamondre Stevenson

Injury: Toe injury

Analysis: After missing last week with a toe injury, Stevenson has been ruled out for week 10. The big toe is the last point of contact on the ground when running, meaning it must withstand immense forces and must be able to push off with extreme power. When injured, this is extremely hard to do and can limit a runner's burst.

Running backs average missing just under two games with a toe injury and see a massive 25% dip in both fantasy points and snap rate after injury. With Stevenson's injury being of moderate severity, and the Patriots beginning to ramp up rookie TreVeyon Henderson, expect these numbers to apply to Stevenson whenever he returns.

Ollie Gordon

Injury: High ankle sprain

Analysis: Gordon suffered what is deemed a mild high ankle sprain last Thursday and is questionable to play this week. A high ankle sprain can lead to impaired ankle stability, making it difficult to plant and cut sharply and confidently; however, with a mild sprain, the loss of stability is minimal.

Running backs usually miss 2-3 weeks; Gordon appears to be ahead of schedule here. While running backs average no drop off in fantasy points after a high ankle sprain, Gordon has not yet developed into a startable fantasy asset.

Nick Chubb

Injury: Foot Injury

Analysis: Chubb is good-to-go after a mild foot injury. Yes, a more severe foot injury can be a big problem, as we are seeing with Bucky Irving. A mild foot injury is not a big deal, however, and Chubb being fully cleared from the injury report means this is unlikely to be a problem. Running backs average just a 6% dip in fantasy points after a foot injury. Chubb, however, is well past his prime and on a team that cannot run the ball well. He is not a worthwhile start this week.

Rico Dowdle

Injury: Quad injury

Analysis: A mild quad injury won't stop the darling of the 2025 fantasy season from playing in week 10. The quad muscle is a strong, powerful muscle that is critically involved in sprinting. When a more severe injury is present, it is difficult to accelerate and hit top speed. Mild injuries, however, are not a problem. Running backs average no drop off in fantasy points in the first game after a quad injury, and Dowdle remains a high-level start in all formats.

Wide Receivers

Cooper Kupp

Injury: Hamstring injury / Heel injury

Analysis: After missing week 9 with both a hamstring and a heel injury, Kupp logged a full practice on Friday and has a good shot to play this week. A hamstring injury can impact a receiver's top speed and carry extremely high recurrence rates. Kupp has not been good this season, following the acquisition of Rashid Shaheed. Fantasy managers have no reason to start Kupp this week.

week 10 injury updates

AJ Brown

Injury: Hamstring Injury

Analysis: Brown has been practicing in full coming off the bye week. This puts him approximately three weeks out from injuring his hamstring, which is enough time for pain to be under control and range of motion largely restored, and strength close to normal, but the muscle has not fully healed, putting him at increased risk for re-injury. Receivers average a 15% dip in fantasy points after a hamstring injury. Brown is still an elite player, but has had an inconsistent season so far. In a big game Monday night, expect Philly to rely heavily on Brown, and a mild dip in production should not be enough to stop fantasy managers from starting him.

Garrett Wilson

Injury: Knee injury

Analysis: Remember this, Wilson was "diagnosed" with a "knee hyperextension," which is not actually a medical diagnosis. We don't know what exactly Wilson's injury was, but we do know that he practiced in full on Friday and looks like he will play in week 10. A knee hyperextension can cause a number of different injuries, ranging from an ACL tear (not the case for Wilson) to a PCL sprain or bone bruise. With Wilson potentially playing three weeks after injury, he should be in a place where,e no matter which of the potential tissues was damaged, he can at least produce in some capacity for fantasy managers.

Puka Nacua

Injury: Chest injury

Analysis: Nacua is in line to play this week after exiting week 9 early with a chest/rib injury. Fans have heard for years that playing through a rib injury comes down to pain tolerance, but this is not entirely true. In Nacua's case, we know his injury was to the front of his chest and ribs, and we must not neglect the musculature that attaches in this region. The pec muscles and oblique muscles have strong attachments to the front of the chest and ribs, and when injury is present, these muscles can lock up, limiting the motion needed to rotate the torso and reach the arms to make catches.

When pain comes down and these muscles can be normalized through rehab, then performance returns to normal. Fortunately, this normalization can occur rather quickly with a mild injury. Receivers do average a 17% dip in fantasy points after a rib injury; however, a dominant force like Puka with a mild injury should not be impacted and remains an elite start.

Chris Godwin

Injury: Fibula injury

Analysis: Godwin remains impaired by his fibula injury that occurred in his second game back from a major ankle surgery. While not in the same spot as his fracture from last season, major surgery like the one Godwin underwent almost always leaves the ankle with chronic stiffness, which will alter the innate ability to absorb ground reaction forces, leading to increased force through the leg.

Unfortunately, Godwin will be at heightened risk for injury because of these presumed mechanical changes. Hopefully, he can return soon, but for now, he can remain on your IR.

Terry McLaurin

Injury: Quad Injury

Analysis: McLaurin will miss another game with his quad injury. I've been writing for what feels like all season about the concerns here. McLaurin may return at some point this season and play well, but his re-injury risk will be extremely high.

DJ Moore

Injury: Hip / Groin Injury

Analysis: Once again, DJ Moore was on the injury report, but has been cleared to play. His hip/groin injury is not a major concern and should not slow him down in week 10. He has been inconsistent this season, but is a flex option for fantasy managers.

Rome Odunze

Injury: Heel / Ankle Injury

Analysis: Coming off a dreadful zero catch (but 100% snap) game in week 9, Odunze has been cleared from the injury report. Heel injuries typically are not a big deal for a receiver, and when they are warmed up, the pain generally subsides. Last week was shit, but Odunze should be a great play in week 10.

Michael Pittman

Injury: Glute injury

Analysis: Pittman was dealing with a mild glute injury but is good-to-go. The glute muscles are critical for sprinting and cutting, but injury is usually just a bruise and heals very well. Expect no ill effects from Pittman's injury. He has been excellent this season and should continue to be a great play this week.

Brian Thomas Jr

Injury: High ankle sprain

Analysis: Thomas was a victim of a hip-drop tackle that put immense eversion force through his left ankle, leading to a high ankle sprain, and he will miss week 10. The video looked bad, but somehow Thomas is reported to be dealing with a "low-grade injury". Thomas's missing week 10 makes me think this report was false.

A high ankle sprain causes disruption to the key ligaments holding the tibia and fibula bones together. When injured, the ability to plant and cut is impacted,d making receivers much slower out of their breaks. Receivers average missing 2.8 games as it takes time to rehab and regain the stability needed to play well. The good news is that receivers average no drop-off in fantasy points after a high ankle sprain; however, Thomas's limitations in practice this week, combined with his lack of production this season, make it likely he is more impacted than most by his sprain, and it may be a good idea to hold him out of your lineups this week if he plays.

Matthew Golden

Injury: Shoulder Injury

Analysis: Golden's week 10 status is at risk after missing Friday's practice with a shoulder injury. The rookie logged a limited practice on Thursday, but apparently was not feeling well enough to participate on Friday. While receivers average only a 7% dip in fantasy points after a shoulder injury, Golden has not yet been reliable, and Green Bay plays Monday night, meaning fantasy managers would need to have a pivot in place before starting him.

Tory Horton

Injury: Groin / Shin

Analysis: Horton is unlikely to play due to a groin and shin injury. A shin injury is fairly unusual, but receivers average missing just over one game with a groin injury. If Horton misses this week, he should be able to return soon.

Josh Palmer

Injury: High ankle sprain

Analysis: Palmer has been out since week six with a high ankle sprain and a knee injury. Receivers average missing 2.8 games with a high ankle sprain, and Palmer has been limited in practice all week but has a shot to play. If he can play this week (a big if), receivers average no drop-off in fantasy points after a high ankle sprain. Palmer, however, is not a reliable fantasy asset.

Ricky Pearsall

Injury: PCL injury

Analysis: Pearsall is out again with his PCL injury. PCLs are tricky to play through, but generally, after 4-6 weeks, players can return and play well. Better days ahead.

Tetairoa McMillan

Injury: Hamstring Strain

Analysis: The Panthers stud rookie was a late add to the injury report and coach Canales has expressed concern due to a hamstring injury. Tet dealt with a hamstring injury earlier this season, but it is unclear if this is the same side. By the sounds of it the 22-year-old will either miss or be considerably limited on Sunday. Tet has been solid all season, but a late hamstring injury both increases re-injury risk if he does play and also limits speed and explosiveness. Receivers average a 15% dip in fantasy points in the first game after a hamstring injury and this would likely apply to McMillan if he can play.

Luther Burden

Injury: Concussion

Analysis: Burden is in line to play after missing week 9 with a concussion. We do not expect any performance drop after a concussion.

Cedric Tillman

Injury: Hamstring injury

Analysis: Tillman is expected to return this week after missing four games with a hamstring injury. Tillman has been a nice prospect, but is yet to really pop in the NFL, and is best left on the bench/waiver wire this week.

Kayshon Boutte

Injury: Hamstring injury

Analysis: Boutte has been ruled out with a grade I hamstring injury. A mild injury for a young player should not keep him out long. Expect him to push to play next week.

Isaiah Bond

Injury: Foot injury

Analysis: Bond will miss week 10 with a foot injury. He was unable to practice at all this week, we will check on his status next week.

Dyami Brown

Injury: Concussion

Analysis: Brown has been removed from the injury report and will play in week 10. We expect no performance dip following a concussion.

Tight Ends

Cole Kmet

Injury: Concussion

Analysis: Kmet is off the injury report and will play. We expect no performance dip after a concussion.

Harold Fannin Jr.

Injury: Hamstring Strain

Analysis: Fannin is truly questionable as he was only able to log a limited practice on Friday due to a hamstring injury. Hamstring's don't impact a tight end quite the same as other positions, but this is still a concern. The rookie has looked good but has not been dominant just yet and is best held out of lineups this week.
