Week 12 was relatively quiet compared to week 11, but as always, there are notable fantasy players who are banged up as we step one week closer to the fantasy playoffs. Can fantasy managers trust Alvin Kamara the rest of the season? What about Rashee Rice on Thanksgiving? Professional injury analysis on these player injuries and more is provided in the week 12 NFL injury recap below.
Quarterbacks
Lamar Jackson
Injury: Toe injury
Analysis: Jackson did not appear to be injured last week but was an estimated DNP on Monday due to a toe injury. At this point, there is little information present and no real reason for concern, but we'll keep our eyes glued to Baltimore practice reports to see how this progresses. A right-sided toe injury that is moderate in severity could impact rushing and throwing, and a left-sided toe injury could impact rushing (not throwing). But again, at this point, there is no reason for concern.

Baker Mayfield
Injury: Left AC joint sprain
Analysis: Baker underwent an MRI for a left shoulder injury that forced him out of the Sunday night contest. MRI results came back showing a "low-grade AC joint sprain". Functionally, this is great news. AC joint injuries have six different grades, with grades I-II showing little to no joint laxity and always being treated with rehab. Mayfield clearly falls into the grade one to two classifications and should be able to power through the injury. With this being his non-throwing arm, he won't see any negative impact on his fantasy production. The only concern is that a single bad hit could significantly exacerbate the situation.

Joe Flacco
Injury: Right index finger injury
Analysis: Flacco injured his index finger on his throwing hand and was estimated as limited in Monday's practice report. This really does not matter as we have gotten word that Joe Burrow will return to the starting lineup, but in the event Flacco ends up in the game, a finger injury can impact accuracy.
JJ McCarthy
Injury: Concussion
Analysis: McCarthy, who played the entire game last week, has been placed in the concussion protocol. He will have to pass through the protocol before returning to action.
Running Backs
Alvin Kamara
Injury: MCL Sprain
Analysis: Kamara is likely to miss some time with an MCL sprain. The MCL receives a great blood supply, which is beneficial for healing, but also means that it swells significantly, leading to stiffness. The MCL's job is to provide passive stability for the inside of the knee, and with a grade II or worse injury, stability needs to be regained in addition to reducing swelling and stiffness before returning to play. Running backs average missing 3 games and see a 15-20% dip in fantasy production for the first three weeks after injury. Kamara has been struggling all season relative to what we are used to, and it's possible he won't produce at a high level for the rest of the fantasy season.

Ashton Jeanty
Injury: Left high ankle sprain
Analysis: Jeanty suffered a classic high ankle sprain late in the game on Sunday. Fortunately for Jeanty, his foot was not caught on the ground long, which saved him from a significant injury. Jeanty is not expected to miss much time and even has a shot to play this week. This time frame tells us this is a grade I sprain with little to no loss of stability within the ankle. If true, the maintained stability should allow Jeanty to plant and cut quickly and powerfully. Be sure to tune in for our Saturday morning article to gauge how this injury is anticipated to impact him on Sunday. Running backs average no drop-off in fantasy points after a high ankle sprain.

Bam Knight
Injury: Right knee injury
Analysis: Night appeared to injure his right knee late in the game on Sunday, but there have been no reports since. We will monitor practice status this week. His teammate, Trey Benson, has a shot to return this week and presumably would take on the lead role.
Wide Receivers
Nico Collins
Injury: Rib injury
Analysis: Collins got blasted in the ribs on Thursday night but was able to finish the game. Rib injuries hurt, but often can be played through. Receivers average an 18% dip in fantasy points after a rib injury.
DK Metcalf
Injury: Left lateral ankle sprain
Analysis: Metcalf suffered a left lateral ankle sprain not once, but twice on Sunday. He was able to return each time, indicating low severity, but sometimes these swell up significantly the next day. While annoying, lateral ankle sprains usually are not a big deal, with receivers averaging missing less than one game and just a 10% dip in fantasy points.

George Pickens
Injury: Left Calf / Knee injury
Analysis: Pickens is dealing with a calf and/or knee injury after being landed on awkwardly late in Sunday's game. He finished the game and made some nice catches down the field after the injury, so hopefully this is just precautionary due to soreness. Tuesday and Wednesday's status will be more telling.
Rashee Rice
Injury: Hamstring injury
Analysis: Rice, who finished the game on Sunday with a season high of 141 receiving yards, tweaked his hamstring on Sunday. With Rice finishing the game after injury, it's likely a grade I injury at worst, where there is little to no loss of strength or function. Kansas City plays on Thanksgiving, so his practice status will have to be monitored. Re-injury rates are high, and receivers average a 15% dip in fantasy points after a hamstring injury.
Tee Higgins
Injury: Concussion
Analysis: Higgins has already been ruled out for Thanksgiving with a concussion. He will have to pass through the protocol to play in week 14.
Khalif Raymond
Injury: Ankle injury
Analysis: Raymond will miss at least week 13 with an ankle injury. He is not fantasy relevant right now.
Kavontae Turpin
Injury: Shoulder injury
Analysis: Turpin is dealing with a shoulder injury, and his Thanksgiving Day status is questionable. Turpin's game is built on speed, which won't be affected by a shoulder. Receivers average missing less than one game.
Tight Ends
Michael Mayer
Injury: Ankle injury
Analysis: Mayer injured his ankle on Sunday and did not return. Tight ends average missing 1.5 games.
Noah Gray
Injury: Concussion
Analysis: Grey will have to pass through the NFL's concussion protocol before returning. With Kansas City playing on Thursday, he will likely miss week 13.
